Monday, October 29 The Ellenville Journal says: "At the end of the evening, several audience members were asked who was the most impressive candidate." ........ "In the end though, it seems that the night's biggest winner [from the] Ulster County Legislator candidates was Terry Bernardo." ........ "I didn't know her before tonight but she seems very bright and she is very articulate.... Letter to the Editor Terry Bernardo, candidate for Ulster County Legislator from District one, has added her voice to the growing firestorm that Taxnightmare .org hopes will bring down the current iniquitous method of funding schools by bankrupting property owners. She promises-in her answers to our questionnaire- to work for alternate methods of school funding in the legislature and as a citizen/taxpayer. Speaker of the Assembly Silver says NYS has no plan to reform the outrageously unequal way schools are funded. TaxNightmare.org and our coalition partners around the state have a plan: First, the state must shoulder its responsibility to fund schools as it does other basic necessary services. Second, we must insist that the candidates for Ulster County say, front and center, what they intend to do to cure the virulent property tax epidemic. Other coalition partners in other counties are pressuring their candidates to do the same. Vote for change. Property taxes are going to get much, much worse if you don't. and here are three reasons why... We need to control our property taxes. It's time to reign in the spending by putting the taxpayers first in Ulster county. We need to create jobs. Companies are not going to relocate to Ulster County unless we are committed to holding the line on property taxes. We need more Tourism. Tourists bring millions of dollars to Ulster County that help make it affordable for everyone to live here, and more tourists = more jobs for the residents of Ulster County.
Terry Bernardo is co-owner of Skate Time 209 and Pilates At The Bungalow. Terry holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Maryland and a Master of Business Administration from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She is a former corporate hotel executive with chains such as Sands, Ian Schrager Hotels, Loews, Hilton, and Sheraton. She resides in Accord, NY with her husband Len and dachshund Sundae.
